2-3 cups cauliflower chopped
1 yellow onion chopped
1 medium potato chopped
3 clove minced garlic
3 tsp salt
2 tbsp dill
3 tbsp olive oil
2-3 cups chicken stock or water
1 cup cream or milk
cayenne pepper
fresh rosemary

Saute onions, garlic, and salt in oil with dill until lightly browned. Add caulilower and potato and cook 20-30 min on a low heat. When potato is slightly soft, remove to a food processor and puree. Return to pot and add chicken stock or water as well as cayenne, paprika, and rosemary to taste. Keep on low heat for 20-30 more minutes. Stit in cream or milk 5 minutes before serving.

I like this recipe so much and it is so easy that it is quickly becoming one of my specialities.

quick and easy recipe [01 Nov 2005|09:29pm]
i looked a few recipes and then came up with this for what i had. turned out pretty darn good.

1 box Jiffy corn muffin mix
1 cup of milk or so
1 stick of butter (or margerine)
1/2 cup of cheese
1 egg
1 1/2 cups of sweet corn (or creamed corn)
1 cup finely diced squash or carrots
black pepper
seasoned salt
cayenne pepper

Mix all together in a casserole dish (i used a deeper 1.5 quart dish but thinner, wider one would work if you adjust the baking time) and bake 30 minutes.

wine review [23 Aug 2004|05:37pm]
[ mood | fine ]

the Little Penguin Shiraz 2003
South Eastern Australia
Quite good and popular wine. It has very bright and bold berry flavors. It is smooth and somewhat jammy on the mouthfeel. The label talks about some spicyness but it quite mild even for a shiraz. It has a long and pleasant finish. I had this with some char-grilled chicken and it was very good. Quite a good and very likeable shiraz.

Yangarra Park Merlot 2001
South Eastern Australia
Decent merlot. Okay aroma of ripe plum with a bit alcohol nose to it. It is full bodied with thick plum flavors and blackberry on the side. It is velvety and smooth in the mouth but does have the bite of some oak tannins. Would probably pair well with a sharp cheddar or even a smoked gouda.

Edit: After another glass or so I detected a very subtle cherry flavor. Also, this merlot does better with some air. I am still unsure about aging wines but this one seems it could maybe stand 1-3 years more in the bottle.

and then something a tad different.

cliché is the day
weather describing it

rainy, depressed
desire of growth

partly cloudy, boring
passing the time

partly sunny, content
just a nice day

thunderstorms, crazy
letting it all loose

sunny, happy
lasting peace

partly sunny partly cloudy, fine
every other day

[ mood | tired ]

so i have decided to use this journal to also store my tasting notes on different libations that i consume. i tend to consider myself a connoisuer of beer, wine, and spirits. all my beer tasting notes are on beeradvocate.com. but here is my first one for wine.

Yangarra Park Shiraz 2001
South Eastern Austrailia
Very pleasant wine made from a well known US-based winery. Nice subtle plum aromas and some spice. Very easy to drink. Good plummy taste with full fruit flavor. It does have some hints of vanilla in it. Quite a velvety smooth finish which is somewhat complex. I find this one very similar (almost better) to the Yellow Tail Shiraz and since is was a bargain bin find I bought like 3 bottles for 3.99 a piece.

i have never considered myself a very patriotic person but i still get a tear in my eye when i hear the star spangeled banner. particularly when USA wins a gold medal.

all quiet and calm
i sit and wait
in the night
for the thing
that will make tommorow
shine bright

when it comes
i shall rejoice
and hold it tight
long into the evening
and straight on in
to the morning light

when i awaken
and find it all
to be just right
i will step into the sun
seeing clearly
sun shining bright

[ mood | contemplative ]

my heart is heavy
but thy stomach not
for food has little value
when i hunger for
something more substantial
such as is the caress
of my lady's hand
and the sweetness of her kiss
with longing i wait
for her return
so i may satiate
my undying desire

-can you tell i just saw some shakespeare? it always makes me want to write and or speak in that style.

Willkommen!! [12 Aug 2004|11:30am]
[ mood | hopeful ]

Welcome! This is my side journal. For now it is a tool to get me writing again. It will mostly be used to posting poetry and other things i have written. But it may also contain various other things such as quotes, pictures, lists, and maybe some links. We'll see how it goes. I hope you like.
